Shuttlewood Clarke Foundation

Description

"The Foundation supports the elderly, adult with disabilities and young people through a variety of wellbeing activities (Relaxation, Mindfulness, Tai Chi, Pilates, Yoga, craft groups, book club, singing and walking sports), outdoor education in our dedicated Yew Trail, woodland area and Discovery Den, and support services groups (Young Onset Dementia, Fibromyalgia, Lipoedema, MS, Pulmonary Fibrosis). There are also three charity shops, a model railway and buggy rides between the two sites, a community allotment and a tearoom. The focus and drive of the charity has remained pivotal to the wellbeing of the local community covering a wide range of support groups, classes and educational activities covering the full spectrum of ages and needs. We have 137 volunteers in our ""family"" who are the lifeblood of the Foundation. The sense of belonging, feeling useful and valued, and developing skills and knowledge are key elements to the success of our volunteer team. Volunteering benefits their own mental health. In April 2023, we partnered with Active Together Leicestershire to deliver a programme of activities to encourage gentle movement. These activities have included walking football, walking netball and Nordic walking, supporting over 100 hours of active wellbeing sessions. The Foundation has partnered with Into the Woods Forest School to provide educational and fun activities to help promote and develop health, wellbeing and skills to young children.
We are committed to supporting young people with special educational needs and disabilities by offering student placements to 7 local schools and colleges. We have seen the students flourish with our support in a safe, inclusive environment. Each year, we welcome over 200 pupils from local primary schools to a fun interactive day in our woodland. This benefits those who may not ordinarily have access to outdoor or green space.
The Foundation stays true to its core values of staying humble and understanding the value in simple things. We continue to work hard to protect the legacy of our founder, David Clarke, by providing a safe, inclusive, home from home environment and we never turn anyone away. We are constantly looking to expand our activities and work with other organisations to bring a wider range of support groups together."
